Glazed smoke ventilation windows in Palacio de Comunicaciónes Madrid

Palacio de Comunicaciónes is one of the most famous buildings in the centre of Madrid. It was designed by architect Antonio Palacios and built  in 1909. At first it was used as a post office. Since 2007 it hosts the headquarters of the mayor of Madrid. The building was renovated in 2008/2009. Most striking is the transformation of the inner court called the Village Hall. This inner court sizes 2,600 square metres and is completely roofed over with glass. Of course smoke and heat ventilation has been taken into account. It was not an easy job because everything had to be tailor-made.

89 Tailor-made triangular (smoke) ventilation windows

This project was far from standard. Aesthetics were of utmost importance and the smoke ventilation windows had to fit exactly into the design of the glass roof. It was not allowed to disturb the architectural transparent glass roof in any way. Each of the 89 ventilation windows, type Lumera, has different measurements. The Lumera has slim profiles and controls that are hidden in the frame.
